Description:
The project is to set up a biodiesel plant in Amsterdam, which will produce biofuel from food and food waste. The aim of the facility is to produce sustainable fuel from waste products. The structure will be built using 3,300 tonnes of structural steel and will have a floor area of 7,000 square metres (100m x 70m) and a height of between 20 and 30 metres. The design process was significantly complicated by vibrating machinery, complex technology, and congestion due to the large number of equipment and piping.
Due to the novelty of the technology used, constant changes were necessary throughout the project. This required regular consultation with the international design team and local authorities. Safety was a high priority and explosion simulations were carried out to optimise the designs and minimise potential risks.
